Analysis Of Customer Production Environments Shows 6x Better Performance With One-quarter Of Footprint, 50-60x Reduction In Annual Management Time

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – December 9, 2014 – Tintri, the leading producer of application-aware smart storage for virtualization and cloud environments, today announced the findings of a Taneja Group Field Report. The report, “Massively Scalable, Intrinsically Simple: Tintri’s Low TCO for the Virtualized Data Center,” is based on in-depth interviews with Tintri customers across a broad range of industries. Customer interviews reinforced findings from Taneja Group’s earlier hands-on lab testing, which showed Tintri VMstore systems provide 6x better performance and reduce operating expenses 50-60x compared to conventional storage solutions.

Key drivers of reduced TCO identified in the Taneja Report include:

  • Performance

Tintri customers saw 6x better performance than typical mid-range storage systems with flash. Customers reported that Tintri VMstore systems met or exceeded the performance of larger all-flash arrays.

  • Capacity

Customers reported moving from 16U of traditional storage to a 4U Tintri system. One company deployed a 6-10 TB Oracle database in a single 3U Tintri VMstore. And a Fortune 200 Financial Services company achieved $700,000 of CAPEX savings on one project in a 3-year period.

  • OPEX

Tintri dramatically reduced time spent on deployment and provisioning to minutes, compared to weeks for conventional storage. Customer reported up to 52x reduction in time for implementation and 60x decrease in annual management time. One customer went from juggling workloads around 15 different data stores to just one Tintri VMstore with no manual intervention for tuning and rebalancing.

  • Troubleshooting

While troubleshooting a virtualized environment can encompass many departments and processes, Tintri reduced the effort from days to minutes with built-in end-to-end performance visualization tools on VMstore.

“The key takeaway from this study,” said Arun Taneja from Taneja Group, “is that if your company operates a highly virtualized or cloud environment, Tintri must be in your consideration set. Tintri’s emphasis on VM-level management delivers far better density, performance and ease-of-use than conventional storage. And—based on our interviews—the Tintri VMstore produces fanatical customers.”

“The results from Taneja’s previous hands-on lab testing established Tintri as a key enabler of both virtualization and private cloud,” said Kieran Harty, CTO, Tintri. “The TCO findings in this follow-up report make Tintri a ‘no brainer’. Taneja’s findings—6x better performance, ¼ the footprint and a fraction of the management effort—are consistent with our customer successes.”
